Declaration of Anti-Fascist Association

In connection with the forthcoming G8 summit a regime of strong police control has been enforced in our city during the recent months. Police and other force units are drawn into the city from different regions of Russia. Total control of documents of people is executed in the streets and at metro stations, people are being intimidated. In particular, inhabitants of blocks of flats situated near government routs are recommended not to approach their windows during the summit, otherwise they can be shot down by VIP guards.
Russian media are creating the atmosphere of fear declaring that the government forces are ready for crude suppression of any possible protest actions. City police are doing strange "prophylactics work" with those whom they believe to be activists of public organizations and with their relatives. With unofficial "lists of activists" compiled with the help of secret informers they come to people's flats or call them by phone and tell them to come "for a talk" to the departments of the Interior Ministry. Some people were taken to the police units by force. The police ask questions about political views and belonging to public organizations.
Many of those who experienced this psychological terror are participants of antiwar and antifascist movement. We protest against the government enforcement of arbitrary rule in the city and we call upon everybody who is against the police regime to join us in this protest.
